As a UK-registered lender serving a global customer base, we’re unable to provide country-specific tax certificates.
US tax forms and common requests
We’re often asked about the following US tax forms:
- Form 1098-E (Student Loan Interest Statement)
- Form W-8BEN-E
- Form W-8IMY
Prodigy Finance does not provide these forms. Because we are a UK-based lender, we are not required to issue Form 1098-E or other US tax forms.
What can I use instead?
We provide an Interest Statement, which is the official document available for your loan.
This serves as an alternative to Form 1098-E and includes:
- Total interest charged
- Total interest paid
- A breakdown of transactions on your account
You can use this document when preparing your taxes, but we recommend checking with a qualified tax professional to confirm how it applies to your situation.
Why don’t you provide Form 1098-E?
Form 1098-E is issued by lenders subject to US tax reporting requirements. As a UK-based lender, Prodigy Finance is not required to issue this form.
How to request your Interest Statement
For easy access on the go, download the Prodigy Finance app on iOS or Android. Here’s how to access your statement:
- Sign in to your Prodigy Finance Dashboard or open the app
- Go to the Prodigy Assistant (Chatbot)
- Type "Interest Statement"
- Follow the prompts to view and download your statement
Beyond this, we are unable to advise on tax matters and advise that you speak to a local tax attorney.
Important note on tax advice
We’re not able to provide tax advice or guidance on how to use your Interest Statement. Tax obligations vary depending on your country of residence or previous connections, so we recommend speaking with a qualified local tax advisor.
Countries where tax exemptions may apply
We're doing our utmost to minimize the amount of tax payable by our customers by applying for reliefs or exemptions from tax in various countries. To get more information about the countries where exemptions may apply, see the following article (note, that you will need to be logged into your Prodigy Finance account to view this article).
